Update - Nov. 2008

Well, although the construction is still happening at our house, Stella is doing OK. We have been trying to keep her out of the main dusty areas, and she hasn't had any bad relapses. She does seem a bit more phlegmy and pukey than normal, but nothing to worry about. Here are some recent pics. Keep your bulldog updates coming, it's very helpful for other dog owners to hear about how we are all keeping our dogs healthy and happy!

  1. I'm so glad Stella hasn't had any bad relapses, she's just adorable! I'm always happy to come here and she that she's doing well! Our Speckles has been doing well lately, but Winter is coming, she usually does better and feels better in the Summertime.

  3. I have been reading your blog about Stella while checking for info from owners about their bullies. We have two - Mac and Rileigh - and we have a blog as well. Mac is having cateract surgery tomorrow. He has severe cateracts on both eyes now and went 95% blind in a very short time - just a matter of about 6 months and he is just 3 years old! I am very interested to know more about the lemons, as he also has a problem with throwing up his food and SNORING!! Plus the heavy breathing and choking, gagging...you know the drill. He is a complete love...such a great dog. (I can hardly call him a dog because he is a much a member of the family as any one of us!) Do you mind if I put a link on my blog to yours? You have good info here that could help other owners. Anyway - nice to meet you and will continue to follow your blog.

  4. I also have an English bulldog named Stella. She was a rescue, and is now about 2.5 years old. Oddly enough, if you reverse the white and red, she's like a mirror image of your Stella, who is quite the pretty girl.

She gets phlegm in her throat also, having had palate reduction surgery when she was younger to improve her condition. Like you, I used lemon juice. I tried whole lemons, but it's hard to get her to swallow it, so I now use Sicilia lemon juice.

It's made from real lemons, not concentrate. The plastic bottle has a neck on it, which makes it easy to squirt the juice into the back of her throat, where it belongs. Easy to keep in the fridge, and you don't have to worry about it going bad, as with real lemons. Also great for travel.

My Stella has an older brother, Henry, who is now ten. She keeps him young.
